Hill Walking

A day trip to Slieve League and Bunglas Mountain Views to see the highest sea cliffs in Europe, (see video below). only 35 minutes drive - near Glencolumbcille Visit the Cultural Centre in Teelin for information on the local archaeology Sliabh League These cliffs offer spectacular views over the Atlantic. Killybegs

Visit the Killybegs Maritime & Heritage Centre at the Carpet Factory in Killybegs, where the longest hand-knotted loom in the world is on display. Learn about the fishing history and explore the life sized boat-wheelhouse.

Boat Trips

Take the opportunity to sightsee by boat, from Teilin pier on the Nuala Star Boat Trips to the famous Bunglas, Sliabh League sea cliffs. This is an excellent opportunity to get a close look at marine life including whales, which sometimes come inshore at the end of the summer.

We can arrange guided tours of the area with the local archaeologist and learn about the rich heritage and archaeology sites in the area and take in the unspoiled landscape (maps and information available at Seawinds)

Fintra Beach

7 mins from Killybegs is the beautiful strand which has Blue Flag status. It lies in a large cove which shelters it from the Atlantic breeze and is an excellent location for bathing and watersports. It is a perfect place for a looped walk around the beach.

Around Killybegs, County Donegal

Seawinds is a great touring base to take a drive from Killybegs to Glencolmcille and onwards to Ardara via the Glengesh Pass, the visitor will experience Ireland's most dramatic scenery of mountains, lakes and coastline. It is an area of great natural interest, with a rich and diverse cultural landscape.

Killybegs, the largest fishing port in Ireland, where the arrival of the fishing fleet and the unloading of the catches and the sight of the fishing fleet is worth seeing and an experience you will cherish. Killybegs is the gateway to the Sliabh League penisula, and a visit to the Maritime & Heritage centre in the town shows exhibits of the fishing and the hand-knotted carpets are well worth while.

From Killybegs take the coast road to Kilcar, the centre of the woollen and tweed industry where visitors can see the local handloom weavers at work. Situated in the Gaeltacht where traditions and culture are alive in the music, language and folklore, continue along the coast road to Carrick as it gives a fine example of the Donegal coastline awaiting you. Visit Teelin and Bunglas to experience the famous panoramic view of the highest sea cliffs in Europe. A look at the coast and Sliabh League from the sea is highly recommended or you can view the cliffs by taking a boat trip from Teelin pier.

Glencolmcille is a haven of tranquil relaxation and natural beauty. The culture continues with the many summer schools in tradiational music along with a wide range of other activities. To continue on your tour proceed to the spectarcular pass at Glengesh, Ireland's most captivating mountain pass with it's famous "S" bends, and then on to the beautiful town of Ardara.

The Sliabh League peninsula is not a place to rush in and out of, it is a remarkable place with a friendly people and should be savoured slowly.
